WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR - Poem - by Rabindranath Tagore - Notes - Summary

WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR
-- Rabindranath Tagore
Tagore’s poem “Where the Mind is without Fear” is an extract from his collections of songs, “Gitanjali.” The poem is in the form of a prayer. Tagore prays to God to transform the world into an ideal heaven of freedom.  Tagore describes his ideal world in the following words.
In his world, people think without fear and live with their heads held high.  Knowledge is never confined to a few. It is made accessible to all.  It is an undivided world without any narrow domestic walls. People speak truth from the depths of their hearts. Their words carry nothing but truth.  They strive untiringly towards perfection. Their reason never flows into superstition. They overcome narrow mindedness by ever widening thought and action.
