BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH - poem - by Emily Dickinson - Notes - SUMMARY

BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH
                                                                                       -- Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson’s is a famous American poet. In the poem “Because I Could not Stop for Death” she describes the smooth journey of her death. One day, Death came for her in a carriage with immortality sitting beside Him. The poet liked His civility and aside her labour and leisure to join them. The journey was smooth without haste.
At the school they found the children playing. They passed the green fields and the setting sun. Suddenly a shivering chill took over her. She felt as light as a thread. They paused a while before a house. It had neither a roof nor a cornice and looked like a swollen ground. That was the end of all. There she overcame the sense of time.  Centuries passed like a day since then. When she opened her eyes, the carriage was approaching eternity.
