PROSPECTS OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA
-- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar
“Prospects of Democracy in India” is an essay written by Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution. In this essay, he discusses the hurdles for
the success of democracy in India.
Ambedkar says that Parliamentary
form of government does not itself ensure democracy. The root of democracy lies in a harmonious
society. But, in India, caste system divides people into hostile groups. Therefore, democracy is endangered by the
caste system.
Ambedkar opines that
education can be a means to end the Caste System, if it is provided to the
lower castes of the society. If the
education is used to create awareness and confidence among the suppressed, then
only caste system can be abolished.
