PRINCIPLES OF GOOD WRITING - by L.A. Hill

PRINCIPLES OF GOOD WRITING
-- L.A. HILL

“Principles of Good Writing” is an essay written by L.A. Hill.   In this essay, he points out the rules and regulations to be served in sharpening one’s writing skills.

At first, step by step thoughts must be clearly brought out.  One should read widely to improve vocabulary.  Writing is 90% perspiration (hard work) and 10% inspiration.  There are plenty of things around us for subject matter.  While writing, one must keep in mind the kind of readers one is writing for.  The subject must be of topical interest.  Presentation is very important in good writing.  In the first paragraph one’s point of view must be put forward. The last paragraph must sum up the clear ideas of what one is writing.  Personal problems or complaints should not be included.  It is better to write in a simple and conversational style.  Prefer the concrete to the abstract words.  Avoid slang expressions and also the literary expressions.
