LITTLE
GIRLS ARE WISER THAN MEN
--
Leo Tolstoy
“Little Girls
are wiser than Men” is a short story written by Leo Tolstoy. This story is
about the innocence and purity of little children.
On an Easter morning, two little
girls named Akoulya and Malasha were playing together. They wore new clothes.
They went to a large puddle of dirty water.
Malasha wanted to step into the puddle.
Akoulya warned Malasha to walk carefully without splashing the
water. But, Malasha slumped her foot heavily splashing the dirty
water on Akoulya’s new frock and face. Akoulya tried to catch Malasha. But,
Malasha tried to escape. But, Akoulya’s mother beat Malasha. This led to
quarrel and exchange of abuses among the neighbours. Akoulya’s old grand mother
tried to calm them. But, the crowd did not listen to her.
Forgetting their differences, the
two little girls met together went back to the puddle. They made a channel out
of the Puddle. The two girls followed
the channel with delight. Looking at them, the old lady commented that the
little girls were wiser than the elders since they forgot their enmity and
playing together. All the men and women felt ashamed of themselves and left the
place.
